I am about halfway through finishing my final show piece. I am creating a detailed illustration based on the Greek Deity, Gaia. I will then animate the illustration so it has small movements happening throughout it. The main movements will come from the creatures and goblins that will surround the girl. This will be mainly created on Photoshop, some aspects may be done on After Effects.05:42 Beth Monaghan 0 Comments

Brian Froud
I found inspiration for my final piece in the work of Brian Froud. The style of his art is very dark but he has aspects of light colours to help highlight the main focus of the images. There is always a lot happening in his work so doing this helps make the focus easier to see. His work focuses on fantasy beings like goblins and faeries. He designed all of the goblins that were featured in The Labyrinth. His work helped to inspire the layout of my final piece and also the colour scheme.

Since the beginning of this year we have been applying to universities. I applied for Northumbria University, Sunderland University and Newcastle College. I went for an interview at Northumbria University and was offered a conditional offer. I chose Northumbria as my firm choice because the staff were friendly and the modules suited me well. The course mainly focuses on Animation (traditional and digital).06:07 Beth Monaghan 0 Comments

Projection Mapping show from Abbey Armstrong on Vimeo.01:52 Beth Monaghan 0 Comments
This is our Projection Mapping assignment. We all created animations that were inspired by Tokyo and the 80s. We used software like After Effects, Cinema 4D, Illustrator and Photoshop to create the animation. We had a set colour scheme of bright/neon colours so that it would match the brief.

This is the animation i created for the Adidas Projection Mapping assignment. The animation had to based on Tokyo and the 1980s. To link the animation to the brief i chose to base it on Origami. My animation consisted on triangles folding over to reveal different colours and patterns. I also added Adidas in Japanese moving down the sides of each stripe.

This is an unfinished environment for my game concept. The game is set in Northern Canada so i decided to add mountains and thick forests to the environment as well as the Northern Lights. I tried to keep the colour palette fairly cold so it would match the location. The colour scheme also adds contrast between the character and the environment because the environment is made up of cold colours and the character is made of warm colours. The light coming through the trees is the glow that the flame is following throughout the game. To finish this environment i will add grass and and some more shadows.

For our next college assignment we have been asked to come up with a game concept and then design some of the assets for the game. The character above is the main character for my game. The game begins where the flame is the cause of a house fire so the flame runs away into the forest in shame. During the game the player should empathise with the character. During the game the player will collect magic dust that will allow the character to control the size and intensity of his flame.05:47 Beth Monaghan 0 Comments

In a digital skills session at college we had to recreate the No Man’s Sky concept art. I did it by setting the background colour to a similar blue. Then I found a moon from the Internet and placed in the middle of the composition then I set it screen. This created the white appearance the moon has. To create the mountains I used the polygonal tool to create the back mountains and then I filled them in with a pink red. I used the burn tool to create shadows on the mountains and I used the dodge tool to create light. To create the more dark and detailed mountains I used the polygonal lasso to create the shape and then filled it in with a dark red. Then I created another layer above it and added a rock texture too it. Then I cut round the mountain and set it to overlay. To create the diamond ant the shape inside the diamond I used Cinema 4D. To create the shape I added a sphere then dropped the sphere inside a displacer. I set the displacer to simple turbulence and it creates the spikes around the shape. To create the diamond I used the inner extrude tool and the extrude tool on a cube.

Once the basic shape of the ruins was finished I created a material to add to it. I wanted the material to look like crystal. I started off by changing the colour to black. Then I turned on the diffusion, luminance, transparency, reflectance, bump and glow. I added a texture to create a more crystal looking material and added a gradient of purple and blue to the luminance.
Then i added the material to each part of the ruins.

This concept involves Greek Ruins made of crystal in a cave, underground. If someone is down in the cave for too long they begin to turn to crystal and then the become a crystal statue outside of the ruins. There are white orbs that represent the spirits of people who have become crystal. The spirits fly round the ruins hoping thier bodies stop being crystal. I created this using both Cinema 4D and Photoshop. I created the Greek Ruins and the crystals in Cinema 4D then i imported them into Photoshop to build up the environment and add detail to the crystals.

We did a session in college where we created images on Illustrator that consisted of 3 character, they could be made up or characters that have already been made. I used the pen tool and the shape tools on Illustrator to put together the image. We were only able to use specific colours for each part of the image. I chose to pick characters who's main colours were one of the colours in the colour scheme. The top third of the character is Wanda from Fairly Odd Parents, the middle third is Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb and the bottom third is Toadette.
